Q. What is the need for Long Term Care? |
| A. This is when a person becomes ill or suffers a disability that results in them being unable to carry out their day-to-day activities and continues to be affected over a long period of time, resulting in the need to be cared for. |
Q. What can I expect from having Long Term Care? |
| A. This can include care over many forms from simple domestic assistance to daily medical help and medication. A Long Term Care Plan can help with the funding of this. |
Q. Do I have to be in a Care or Nursing home to receive Long Term Care? |
| A. No, this can also be provided in the person's home. |
Q. Will I receive financial help from the National Health Service (NHS) for Long Term Care? |
| A. Only if you are assessed as being mentally disabled or are in need of 24 hour nursing care. This is called Continuing Health Care. |
Q. What benefits can I claim if I am in need of Long Term Care? |
| A. You will need to have a Means test to assess what assistance you may or may not receive. You might be eligible for Attendance Allowance which is not Means tested. |
Q. How do I obtain a Long Term Care Plan? |
| A. A lump sum is used to purchase a life annuity. The annuity will be guaranteed (for at least a minimum period). A proportion of the annuity can be protected, if required. |
